Finish the coffee table with furniture oil if you like the natural look of the wood. apply a natural furniture oil, like tung oil, teak oil, or danish oil, to a clean cloth. rub the oil into the coffee table with the cloth, going with the grain, until you have applied oil to all the bare wood.. Remove any pieces that will impede your ability to stain or sand the coffee table, or that is not getting restained or sanded (for me, this was all pieces of metal that were attached, because the only wood part of my table is the table top.) wipe down any pieces you are using to remove any food or other type of residue.. Luckily, refinishing a wooden coffee table to look new again is a simple project you can complete in one afternoon. step 1 – removing the old finish. note that if you want to refinish a teak-wood coffee table, you should follow different directions than if you have any other regular wood-type of coffee table.. how to restain wood coffee table
