In this video we look at the finished product of three different methods in finishing your wooden knife handles. i did not show footage of the process because it was boring. lots of hand. On a "working knife", the best finish is no finish. i've used walnut for knife handles and a good finish is charge the buffing wheel with paraffin (canning wax from the grocery store) or a block of beeswax. when buffed, the heat will drive the wax into the wood making a pretty efficient protective finish.. Another option for finishing tool handles is explored in this post over at dailey’s wood works: “i started with a $3 sledge hammer that i picked up at a garage sale. it was rusty and the handle was dry, rough, and dirty, but at least the head was still firmly attached.. finishing wood knife handles
Here is tutorial how i make and finish knife handles on full tang knives. i will not bother you with how to glue them or drill the holes. just shaping the handle and tru-oil finish because some of you have asked me how i achieve glossy finish. i am still relatively new to knife making so if you have a better way to do any of this feel free to. Re: finishing a knife handle rick, my handle making experience pales in comparison to yours, but several years ago i stumbled across a company in oklahoma, jantz supply, that markets knife making supplies and equipment. after visiting with them, they recommended dem-bart continental stock and checker oil for finishing the handles..
