Oil finishes are commonly used on wood furniture and kitchen utensils. generally speaking, oil finishes are eco-friendly, food-safe, and non-toxic. they’re also easy to repair and produce a more textured grain pattern than many alternatives. they tend to be considered a more traditional finish, as oils have been used as wood finishes for. But this woodworking finish is my personal favorite, especially on walnut, which is my favorite wood. it's a finish made famous by amazing woodworkers like sam maloof and george nakashima.. Matte paint creates a smooth surface, making it ideal for older furniture. after a few coats, shallow dents become imperceptible and larger imperfections repaired with wood filler meld flawlessly. Seal milk-painted furniture with a water-based wax top coat (e.g., polyvine wax finish, available on amazon) to make the naturally matte coat slicker and easier to wipe clean, stave off scratches.
